Today
marks the one year anniversary of His Holiness
Abuna Paulos, Fifth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Ichege of the See of St. Tekle Haymanot, Archbishop of Axum and one of the seven serving Presidents of the World Council of Churches. It is precisely true to say the Ethiopian
Orthodox church has flourished in his leadership from 1992 until his death
2012. Theology schools are built and every year more and more theology students
are graduating to go all over the country to preach and baptize. Churches are
becoming financially independent by building schools and constant income
generating ways that helps the Church and the community, and etc. His contribution besides the church includes building
many schools, fought for woman right and the right to get education, peace,
tolerance and development in Africa and all over the world.
His
holiness has served the church and the world to the best of his capacity and
his work has contributed for his Nansen Medal Award by the UN High commissioner
for Refugees.
When asked as a WCC president,
what is your message to the churches?
His Holliness Abune Paulos
replied “I believe that we all have to be true representatives of our own
churches, and that we all have to do our part to serve and contribute, through
our communities, the whole world. We in the ecumenical movement are not here to
make one part of the world better than the others, but, rather, we are here to
serve all people”
He wrote his dissertation paper " The assumption of the virgin Mary" or what is known as in Amharic as " Filseta" in 1988 and I don't think it is a coincidence that he died on the time of Filseta.
Let us remember our father in this fasting season!
May God listens to our prayers
RIP Abune Paulos!
